What we support

Sofronie Foundation aims to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children and young people in the UK and through established partnerships in Africa and Cambodia

We do this by funding educational programmes that help highly disadvantaged children escape from their circumstances. These initiatives include support for vocational or non-formal subjects as well as others helping children access a more traditional, academic curriculum.

Sofronie also funds programmes that focus specifically on the care, education and general support of children who are orphaned, abandoned or separated from their families. In particular, we fund work to rehome children from institutions, placing them into more suitable, family-type care.

Although we have no strict age criteria, many Sofronie grants support early intervention into children’s lives, because this often delivers the greatest possible positive impact. In some cases, our grants focus on improving the emotional and behavioural well-being of children as well as provide parenting programmes, family support and mentoring.

What we look for

Sofronie’s trustees want to fund effective programmes that address these key priorities. We like to develop close relationships with the charities and projects we support. The Foundation is also willing to consider funding a variety of costs, depending on requirements. These include specific projects but also core operating costs.

Ultimately, we fund charities that, by placing the needs of children at the centre of their activities, can make a serious, long term contribution to their lives.
