Hope and Homes has developed ground-breaking approaches in transforming childcare in Eastern Europe. The charity has been particularly successful in rehoming children from institutional care systems. Their programme aims to provide a smaller, caring home in order for the children to receive more attention – and experience a sense of “family” rather than an institution. With support from the charity, this life is often created with a member of their own extended family.
Sofronie Foundation has supported the alternative provision and funded projects with Hope and Homes from 2008 to 2014 – investing £1.9m into providing family based homes for young people from orphanages. In 2014, Sofronie also funded the 'Social Investment Plan' to assist in the expansion of their fundraising capability, strengthen their global reach strategy and expand the work of the charity across Eastern Europe and Africa.
