Founded in 1992, Country Holidays for Inner City Kids (CHICKS) is a registered charity which offers free 6-day residential respite breaks for disadvantaged children across the UK, who would not otherwise have a holiday in the year. The respite break takes place at one of CHICKS’ two stunning retreats either in Devon or in Cornwall. CHICKS helps children from a variety of backgrounds: children growing up in poverty, children of prisoners and children who have been abused, either physically, emotionally or sexually. CHICKS also provide breaks for young carers.During the respite break, CHICKS offers children the chance to partake in many activities such as horse riding, swimming, abseiling, rock climbing as well as trips to the beach and the zoo. On site they can enjoy the extensive amenities on offer such as ground floor level trampolines, basketball nets, pool tables, table tennis, giant Jenga, chess, Connect 4, DJ disco decks and more.In 2009 Sofronie Foundation is funding respite breaks for 50 children.
