			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Department of Children, Schools and Families announced on March 5th a £27 million funding boost for disadvantaged young people. Kids Company is one of five charities to receive funding through the new Youth Sector Development Fund which is allocated over 3 years and is restricted to being spent on 400 of the most vulnerable young people, aged 14 upwards, who present with complex disturbances.</p>
<p>The funding will help Kids Compnay become a centre of excellence enabling them to disseminate informed educational packages for service users and providers, and continue with their successful direct wrap around delivery to young people. The organisation will develop work with the media on improving the societal attitudes to vulnerable young people. </p>
<p>Kids Company will need to continue to raise £4 million annually. This income will support the other 11,500 under 14 year olds who use the therapeutic and social work services within 33 schools and at their two street level centres.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As of January 18th 2008, Camfed has raised £1,572,640 through the Financial Times Seasonal Appeal. The public have given generously and have not only met the first matched funding target of $750,000 set by the Sofronie Foundation and the Skoll Foundation but have subsequently also met a second matching fund of £200,000 launched in the New Year by Camfed and the FT. The total raised to date will allow Camfed to support 5,242 girls through secondary school education.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Financial Times Seasonal Appeal</strong><br />
Sofronie Foundation is pleased to join Camfed International and the Financial Times in support of the Financial Times Seasonal Appeal. The Financial Times has chosen Camfed for the second year running for its Seasonal Appeal, underscoring the FT&#8217;s backing for Camfed&#8217;s work and goals.</p>
<p>To support the appeal, Sofronie Foundation is forming a matched funding partnership with the Skoll Foundation and together with them are pledging to match donations of up to $750,000 made by Financial Times&#8217; readers over the course of the 8-week campaign. This exciting opportunity will enable us to help raise a significant amount for girls and women in Africa.</p>
<p>The international development community recognizes the imperative of girls&#8217; education for poverty eradication and other Millennium Development Goals.  In addition to the obvious benefits of having a population of increasingly socially and economically independent people, the goals of slowing population growth, drastically cutting maternal and infant mortality and decreasing rates of HIV/AIDS infection are all known to be achievable through investing in girls&#8217; education.  At the Clinton Global Initiative, which Ann Cotton attended in September 2007. President Clinton honoured Camfed with these words:</p>
<p>&#8220;In Sub-Saharan Africa, more that 218 million people live in extreme poverty.  Fewer than two thirds of all the children in the region will complete primary school, which means half of the world&#8217;s out-of-school children live in Sub-Saharan Africa. If we can get them through primary school and into secondary school, each additional year of education will add 15 to 25 percent to their income or life&#8230;,&#8221;</p>
<p>Sofronie Foundation has seized this opportunity to multiply social change by investing in the poorest group in the world today - girls in rural areas of Africa. These girls have the power to change the future, if they are given the chance to go to school. They are powerless to change the status quo of their educational exclusion without financial support. The FT readership will receive this message over 8 weeks from the 26th of November. The power of this message and the impetus to give will be enhanced by the Foundation&#8217;s gift, which will be highlighted as an investment in African girls&#8217; futures and to incentivise giving.</p>
